Kalampaka and Meteora areaA unique natural and cultural phenomenon worldwide protected by UNESCO. Only second to Mount Athos, Meteora is the biggest monastic establishment in Greece. In total there are 24 monasteries on the rocks, of which you can visit 6:
Kalampaka is a city of rich history and important monuments. The one of the greatest importance is the Holy Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary that is at the north-eastern part of the city under the very high rock of Aea. Using Kalampaka as your base, you can visit the mountain village Metsovo, the ski centre Pertouli and Lake Plastira, all at almost one-hour distance from Kalampaka.
